The difference between “good” & “excellent” is in the unseen prior preparation.

I’ve been leading worship for 25 years (yes I’m old haha and I’m thankful in hindsight for my parents who were radical pastors of a very prophetic church that allowed me to lead worship on Sundays as a 13 year old). Even though I may have more years of experience leading worship than some of you reading this have been alive lol, I don’t see myself as a ‘pro’ but rather I feel like I’m still learning more now than ever about how to effectively lead people in worship.
One thing I have learnt so far is that PREPARATION is an essential key for leading worship, yet is often underestimated, overlooked and surprisingly undervalued? If you want to grow in your worship leading, put more time and value into preparing (both spiritually and practically).

“When we have a revelation of the transformative power of God that is manifested when we worship Him, we will value preparation in our worship leading to best serve His church & help usher in His presence.”

Firstly, praying and asking the Holy Spirit prior to choosing your songs – what He wants to do and say, and how He wants to minister to the specific people that only He knows you’ll be leading in that exact time of praise and worship. Practical song preparation is also so essential. Never underestimate the significant value of spending time preparing a great setlist to serve people well and create powerful faith-filled moments. Linking the right songs together is important and thinking through each songs key, bpm, arrangement length, lyrical theming flow, service timeframe etc. (This is something I’m passionate about and this extra preparation makes a substantial difference in your worship leading experience).
You will only feel more confident leading (never less) when you have valued prior preparation privately so that when you get on the platform, you already know all song elements – lyrics, melodies, arrangements etc. This enables you to focus on the spirit realm mid song service (which is pinnacle) rather than having your mind stuck in the natural basics of the physical song.
When we have a revelation of the transformative power of God that is manifested when we worship Him, we will value preparation in our worship leading to best serve His church & help usher in His presence.
